Advertising on downloadable browser toolbars

Jack,

What do you think about advertising on a search engine where results are only shown to those visitors that have downloaded and intalled that specific search engine tool bar?

I was curious if this is worth the time and money to advertise this way? Are these browser plug in safe?

Chris,

I don't think I would try this type of internet marketing until I've had time to research it more thoroughly because it sounds awfully close to the spy-ware/ad-ware category of advertising. I would not try spamming thousands of people in the hopes of gaining a few customers.

My thoughts exactly - when I talked to company and others, checked out blogs - one guy blogged said he signed up for 10,000 clickthroughs, got the clicks but nobody signed up for his newsletter he was promoting.

I don't care if you are selling bumper stickers with the finger and (blank) you on it - you shove enough traffic through a website, someone is bound to take your offer - it is just the law of statistics.

I bet this company selling clicks is using some form of bot or other tool to hijack browsers and skew the search results, etc. Sounds like a scam to me....

I agree, this form of advertising sounds fishy.....think we will hold off on this.
